SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. Business for Development works with small enterprises to multinational corporations translate high-level “sustainability commitments” into action to benefit both businesses and local communities. Below are just some of the ways Business for Development helps to achieve the SDGs.

SDG 1: NO POVERTY

Our programs create income-generating opportunities for smallholder farmers, who experience high rates of poverty, to increase their livelihood and generate their local economy.

SDG2: ZERO HUNGER

As we establish effective partnerships, use strategic development, and through targeted use of funds, food security is improved.

SDG 3: GOOD HEALTH & WELLBEING

With increased economic opportunities, farmers and their families have income to invest in health care and achieve healthy lives.

SDG 4: QUALITY EDUCATION

Programs incorporate equal access to vocational training in good agronomic practices. Plus, with extra income farmers earn, they can afford to send their children to school

SDG 5: GENDER EQUALITY

We economically empower women by increasing their access to skills and opportunities, with their participation being vital to each project’s outcomes.

SDG 8: DECENT WORK & ECONOMIC GROWTH

By creating and strengthening collaborative value chains between smallholder farmers, buyers, and suppliers we foster sustainable economic growth.

SDG 5: INDUSTRY, INNOVATION & INFRASTRUCTURE

Many of our programs work to support co-operatives to own and manage processing facilities, encouraging the fulfilment of industrialisation targets.

SDG12: RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION & PRODUCTION

Our work enables smallholders to gain greater returns through the collaborative value chain, which creates a circular system of agriculture and reduces waste through integrated agriculture development.

SDG 13: CLIMATE ACTION

Through application of Climate Smart Agriculture practices we improve the local environment and farmers resilience to climate change.

SDG 15: LIFE ON LAND

In the designing of our programs, we recognise the importance of sustainably managing forests, combating desertification, halting and reversing land degradation, and minimising biodiversity loss.

SDG 17: PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS

We work with an eco-system of partners – buyers, governments, the resource sector, financial institutions, the whole supply chain – each with a vested interest in creating sustainable impact.
